UEFA Women`s U19 Euro Champs Preliminary Tournament

Szombathely / Bük (Hungary), 13 - 18. September 2014

u19.jpgAs usual for articles and reports published here, we never repeat data that can be found in official sites. If you want to get acquainted with them, just type in the title line of this report to a browser and choose one of the hits to have the results from Round 1. To get to the point, Belgium and Hungary have now three points each with the same goal difference 4-0. On Monday, Round 2 will be played where Belgium meet Estonia and Hungary play vs. Slovenia.

Not too much people in the host village Bük knew that an international women`s soccer tournament was to be held there. Even less people were aware of the newest change according to which Hungary were to meet Estonia also in Bük, on the same day, at 18:00, instead of having their game in Szombathely, at 15:30 as it had been decided before. Never mind, the organisers would say, important is only that each and every of the UEFA regulations were fulfilled. And they were, indeed. Security guards were positioned at every strategic point, with the strong order not to allow plastic bottles of refreshing drinks, even behind the supporters` barrier. Plastic cups were all right. Certainly, no alcohol was to be brought in, either. Well, at the same time, security guards had no right to exclude heavily drunken fans if they did not have alcohol with them - outside. Order is order, and rules are rules.

High respect should be given to the organiser team led by Ms. Edit Koväcs, former World Champion and Olympic medallist in fencing (women`s foil). Her eyes and ears were multiplied in order to watch and listen to everything that could mean a piece of dust in the well tuned machinery. Eventual tiny failures were corrected right at the spot so that everything corresponds to the written and accepted program.

Well, as far as Public Relations are concerned, one has to mention some critical points. No posters, no info or ads in the local media, no Program Brochure of the event. You may say: so what? Being organisers, we have never made things like that before. Supporters don`t pay a penny for the entrance, so who cares about them? Nobody. Again, nobody. Supporters are the source of trouble, the possible source of all that can turn bad. The fewer the better. Just to mention: Public Relations belong to another section of the Hungarian Football Association...

And that is why me, just a supporter who is a blogger at the same time, refuse to continue to inform anyone about anything that had happened, is happening, and is going to happen until the closing ceremony of this event. Some teams are going to pass and go home happy, some others to fail and go home sad. Which will be true for the Hungarian women`s U19 team? Sorry for the rude word: Who gives a shit?
